U11 Boys ISA Hockey Tournament, London

Stop Press:

The boys had a long, cold but ultimately successful tournament in London today. Starting in Pool A they drew two games, and narrowly lost their other pool game to eventual Cup Finalists; Langley Prep, 1-0.

Finishing third in their pool Copthill progressed to the Plate Competition, and so another Pool of 4. With the bit between their teeth (and a decent packed lunch inside them) we dominated the Pool, winning two; 1-0 and 2-0 (goals from Will Le Voi, Ruben Isaac and Charlie Plant) and drawing the third. With a resounding 11 points we were off to the Plate Final against The Park School.

Whilst most other teams had packed up and were on the bus home, Copthill and Park fought out a thrilling end to end final. Level scores at full time, so we went to extra time. Copthill upped their game once again and were literally inches from winning it in the last few seconds (sooo close Millsy!). However 0-0 it finished so penalties loomed!

5 brave players stood forward for the challenge, and of course Will Taylor in our goal. Copthill were unable to capitalise on some fantastic 1 v 1 approach play and big hitting - let down in the final examination by slightly dodgy sights! Park had some very talented players, and despite Will's best efforts in goal two of their penalties went in, to one of ours (yes Charlie it was a goal - well done!)

Runners up in the final, beaten 2-1 on penalties. No disgrace. Quite the opposite. It was a brilliant team performance by all the players, as we grew and grew into the tournament, and finished strong with heads held high...it was a proper sporting occasion!

As befits such occasions the boys received their Silver Medal from Rose Thomas of Team GB, and then we headed home, via MacDonalds to celebrate!

Well done to all the team; Will T, Will G, Gilbert, Henry, Sammy, Charlie, Tom, Reuben and Will LeV. Thanks to all those who took turns to captain, and a special congratulations to the Players of the Tournament (as voted by Coach, Mrs Genever-Jones and Mr Taylor  - our special support crew - thanks all).....Henry Clifton, Will Taylor and Charlie Plant...what a fantastic performance boys!!

Lets do it all again next year.
