Rounders - Week 2 - Wednesday 29th April

Rounders v Laxton

Despite a downpour of rain earlier in the day, the coach arriving late and a couple of drops of rain as we arrived at Laxton SchooI, I am delighted to say that the sun shone and the rain held off as the girls took to the Rounders pitches to start their Rounders Season.  Three girls teams travelled by coach to represent Copthill as an U11A, B and C team.  This involved a total of 28 girls being selected across Years 5 and 6.  It was a fun and enjoyable afternoon of Rounders with every girl fielding and batting for the duration of the 2 innings.  The overall results were a win, a draw and a loss for Copthill.  A great start to the Season, well done girls.

U11B
It took the girls the first innings to really find their feet and when they did, they put on a super display of batting and fielding.  Quick decisions were made and some accurate choices were evident when fielding the ball.  The team worked hard to get an impressive number of the opposition out through good choices and well executed throws.  Both Daisy Selkirk and Jessica Gumbrell made an excellent catch each when fielding to get another two players out.  Daisy was patient in her role as first deep and when the ball came her way she either moved the ball quickly to second to limit the opposition scoring or responded quickly to get the batter out at first.  Some super decisions Daisy, well done, earning Daisy Player of the match for excellent play.   Ayana should be commended on her consistent and accurate bowling throughout the game.  She showed control and focus and was very effective in her role.  At the end of the first innings despite fielding well, Copthill had scored 4 Rounders to Laxton's 6 and a 1/2.  A detailed team talk and lots of encouragement that the girls were capable of equalising or winning saw them return to the field with determination.  They were soon notching up the rounders and at the end of the game the result was a draw, with Copthill and LAXTON each scoring 12 and a 1/2 rounders.  A fantastic second innings - very well done.  Captain of the team was Chloe Mills.
