U11 Girls Cricket at Wisbech

The girls had a fantastic afternoon playing Cricket at Wisbech this week.  They threw themselves fully into the game and although a steep learning curve for many, the afternoon was productive and lots of fun.

Emily Darrell started the first innings successfully, bowling confidently and leading the team in terms of advice.  Georgina Cameron volunteered to bowl next and delivered some accurate balls.  Holly Potts showed promise as wicket keeper with her hands ready and watching the ball carefully and even stumped the batter to our teams delight  A great catch from Felicity Branton early in the game was a pleasure to watch.  Isobel Youll bowled well and with consistency and both Hannah Teesdale and Violet GB really got stuck in and worked hard at their bowling.  The girls rotated positions throughout the game and Isobel backed up thoughtfully, involving herself well in all areas of fielding.

First in to bat was Emily who hit the ball well on the first ball but was unfortunate to be stumped out on the next ball.  Play continued through the rain and hail and Georgina and Isobel quickly learnt when to run and when not to take the risk.  The girls all batted well and tried hard throughout.  Bowling, batting and decision making all improved and the girls really did develop a good basic understanding of the game.

First innings:
Wisbech 19 runs, Copthill 15 runs
Emily was selected as Player of the match by Wisbech

Second innings:
Wisbech 32 runs, Copthill 29 runs
Felicity was selected as Player of the match by Wisbech

Player of the afternoon was awarded to Emily Darrell.  Well done to all of you.

Mrs Harriss
