U11 Cricket Tournament at Leicester Grammar
On Wednesday June 10th Copthill took a team of
U11 cricketers to a 6-a-side tournament at Leicester Grammar School.
Whilst the weather was a bit blustery, the cricket was great
fun and very competitive. In the round
robin tournament where each team bowled five overs and wides and no-balls
received four run penalties, Copthill won their first two games. The first game was won with a score of 23-2
against 11-4 against Kibworth. The
second game versus Witham Hall was won 51-1 against 33-2. The third game against LGJS was a close
affair with skilful batting from both sides; however Copthill lost 37-1 against
62-1. In the fourth game, Copthill were
unlucky to lose out in a close game on a very small pitch 47-2 against
50-0. The last game saw Copthill up
against the eventual winners of the competition Spratton Hall, a team
comprising five district players and one county player. Despite Spratton’s impressive bowling and
batting, Copthill only lost 42-0 against 72-0, turning in their best batting
performance of the day.
Copthill ended a creditable fourth with Ben Brittain
captaining the side very effectively and Will Kong producing some very fast and
difficult to play bowling. The whole
team played well and were a credit to the school.
