U11 A Football Triangular Vs Laxton JS and St Hugh's
The U11 A team played their first matches of the term on Wednesday 13th January at home in a triangular tournament along with Laxton and St Hugh's. It was a fantastic afternoon of football had by all and there were certainly some talented boys on show, particularly from Laxton and St Hugh's! Copthill lost the opening match to Laxton losing 2-0. They were 2-0 down at half time so there was an improvement in the second half. They then lost the second match 7-0 to St Hugh's who passed and moved fantastically well and demonstrated great energy and enthusiasm! The final match ended in a 1-0 win for Laxton against St Hugh's in what was the best match of the afternoon with some great football being played. Laxton centre back, right winger and the goalkeeper were outstanding in this match which won it for Laxton, as St Hugh's were a very good side. Copthill have plenty to work on after these matches! There next match is in 2 weeks time away against Ayscoughfee. Well done to all the boys who took part.

U11 ‘B’ Football Triangular
Tournament Wednesday 13th January 2016
This was the
first opportunity to take part in competitive matches this season. The spirit in the team was excellent and the
sportsmanship displayed throughout was of a very high standard.
In our first
game against St Hugh’s, we were unfortunate to go 1-0 down through an
own-goal. Max Kettlewell scored a great
goal to even things up in the second half after a beautiful through ball by
Saiyan Mashru. Jude Warren led the team
well as Captain and Callum Goodfellow was impressive in midfield, closing the
opposition down quickly and showing great pace and commitment. There was also a strong display from William
Taylor in goal. At the final whistle the
1-1 score was a fair reflection of the game.
Some of our players claimed that as we had scored both goals, we ought
to have won 2-0. We decided this was
probably not quite accurate.
In the
second game, Copthill came up against a strong Laxton team. Though very keen and showing a great deal of
effort, our marking was lacking and we were constantly on the back foot as
Laxton’s players found space and used accurate passes to full advantage. A half time score of only 1-0 was mainly down
to some excellent goalkeeping from Frankie Battle. In the second half, our defence was found
wanting and the final score of 4-0 showed how good the Laxton finishing had
been. We will work on marking and
ensuring the midfield works back in defence and is quickly ready to
counter-attack for the next game. Callum
Goodfellow once again shone.
