U11 Rugby House Matches - Wednesday 2nd December 2015

The U11 rugby house matches were contested on Wednesday 2nd December 2015, in what was an excellent afternoon of really hard fought rugby.  A lot of running was undertaken by all the boys as it turned out to be more like a rugby 7s tournament!  This would have pleased our guest for the afternoon, former Copthill pupil George Cox who came in to present the boys with one of his shirts from the England Rugby 7s U18s Commonwealth Games Tournament that he was selected to play in!  It is with tremendous admiration and thanks to George for giving Copthill this gift, which will be framed and put up on the wall in the boys changing rooms - perhaps this will inspire some budding rugby players to follow in his footsteps.

The tournament winners looked to be either Milton or Lindsey as they consistently played well, however in the final round of matches saw Burghley play incredibly well, to beat tournament favourites Lindsey, after having a pep talk by George, as some of the boys were looking despondent having lost the first two matches. This meant that on Mr Willson's pitch, which saw some absolute cracking matches, first place was hanging on the end result of Casewick v Milton.  Casewick, I must say put in an absolute incredible shift all afternoon, as they only had 6 players which had to play for the whole tournament and with at least one person only just coming back to full fitness.  They led Milton at least a couple of times during the match and could of and should of scored more, however Milton crossed the line with 2 minutes to go to win the tournament as they only needed a draw!

This was one of the closest tournaments I've seen and I must congratulate all the boys on their general conduct, sportsmanship and most of all their commitment and effort as they absolutely ran their socks off all afternoon!  I would also like to thank the parents that turned up to support their child and the house matches, which is always noticed by me and not least by the boys themselves.  Finally thank you to Mr Thomas and Mr Willson for refereeing and also putting in some miles!!  Final standings were Milton first, Casewick second, Lindsey third and Burghley fourth.

Here are the two referees pre-tournament - I couldn't put their bedraggled picture on of them post-tournament!!

Well done everybody!
