Win for U11A Girls Hockey v Stamford Junior School - Wednesday 2nd December 2015

This afternoon saw the U11A, U11B, U11C and U11D Girls Hockey teams play their final matches of the season away against Stamford Junior School.  The girls pulled out all the stops to ensure Copthill scored the goals in order to secure four fantastic wins.  Maximum effort was applied and the teams worked hard to play tactically together as a team.  The U11A and U11B teams played first and secured their wins.  The U11C and U11D team then followed and helped to guarantee another 2 wins for Copthill.  A great result girls - Well done!

U11A

The U11A team started well in their match against Stamford Junior School.  They were determined from the outset and worked hard to maintain possession of the ball.  At half time Copthill had taken the lead and were one goal up.  After a detailed team talk the girls maintained a calm and focussed approach and were applying pressure in their attacking half.  A good number of shots at the goal by Daisy Selkirk were unfortunate not to achieve a second goal earlier in the game.  With perseverance a second goal did follow with a well executed cross from Alice Brownlow and good positioning from Ana Isaac resulting in Copthill taking a 2-0 lead.  Rosie Sly worked with effort and commitment to regain possession of the ball throughout the game.    Our defence was strong and proved a problem for the opposition.  Jessica Westwood and Ags worked well together in defence to limit and prevent Stamfords advances.  Penalty corners were defended well by Copthill, with Ags Pennell charging out with pace and determination.     Lea Chauhan was successful in saving any shots that Stamford attempted.  When the final whistle blew, Copthill had held onto their lead and had secured a 2-0 win against Stamford.

Alice Brownlow was awarded player of the match for her outstanding hockey.

Captain of the match was Ags Pennell.

Well done girls - what a super result and end to a very successful hockey season.  You have worked hard throughout lessons and have proved yourselves to be effective and successful hockey players.

Mrs Harriss
