Hockey master class at Oakham School

MT13 Hockey Coaching Day

Master Class @ Oakham

On an overcast Friday we took the full Year 5&6 Girls cohort to Oakham to undertake a Hockey Master Class led by Matt Taylor. After a short coach journey the girls got their full tracksuits on and walked over to the Cricket pavilion where we met our coaches for the day. This included Ellie Watton an England Hockey player who was part of the 2014 squad winning Silver at the Commonwealth Games and the 2017 team securing Bronze at the EuroHockey Championships.
After a comprehensive warm up developing into a stick and ball warm up, the children moved into a carousel of four different activities with different coaches; ranging from rebound boards, shooting from a ball machine feed, small matches and close stick work.

The rain came to join us on the last rotation, but the girls did not let the downpour dampen their spirits. After the conclusion of the coaching we went in for the presentations.

The girls had each been earning points for their teams; each were part of a country. The points were totalled and the winning team were awarded a small prize. Then individuals were selected for attitude, effort, work ethic and application. Jessica Dean, Eliana Russo, Lulu Berry and Felicity Branton all received awards and are pictured on the left.

The girls all enjoyed an excellent day of hockey and are looking forward to putting their newly developed skills into the upcoming fixtures. Great work girls, and you all looked super smart!
