2nd Position in the U9 Netball Tournament at Witham Hall School

We knew that we were in for a cold afternoon when hailstones fell violently upon our arrival at Witham Hall netball courts.  A quick shelter inside and then we embarked on some serious netball; we played six different teams.

In our first match against Witham B team, Copthill A team held their own and passed the ball fluently, linking together some quick passes and quickly finding their feet to secure a 2-1 win.  This set the tone for the next game.

The girls remained focused and played an impressive second game against Grantham Prep.  Having narrowly lost to Grantham at the beginning of the season Copthill girls were determined to take the upper hand and it was great to see the girls marking tightly and moving into space.  The girls quickly took the lead and maintained control of the game to secure their second win of the tournament.

Game number three was against St. Hughs and despite an injury for one of our players, the girls dug deep and continued their winning streak with another win under their belt.

The fourth game against The Peterborough School saw our second injury of the afternoon.  The team pulled together and worked hard to create space, drawing their player away from the hustle and bustle and thinking clearly where they wanted to move to offer a passing option.  Their work paid off and Copthill A team had achieved their fourth win of the afternoon.

The girls notched up their fifth win in a more relaxed game against their friends in the other Copthill team.  And the final match of the tournament saw Copthill face their toughest opposition - Witham A.  By this point the girls were exhausted due to the bitterly cold conditions and whilst they did not give up, it was clear that they had reached their match.  They held their heads up high knowing they had given their all throughout the tournament.  With five out of six matches won, the girls had done more than enough to earn their well deserved 2nd place medals.

Rhea Patel was awarded Player of the Tournament for her contribution to the games in her role as Centre.  She demonstrated some good interceptions, jumping for the ball and getting fully involved linking attack and defense.  Well done to all the girls.  A true sense of team work was evident, as well as a willingness to play the positions asked of you.  Keep up the good work.

Mrs Harriss
