Netball Coaching Session with Stamford High School Staff

NETBALL COACHING

We had a wonderful evening at Stamford Junior School on Tuesday 6th Feb where some of our U10's and U11's had the chance to receive some coaching from the Head of Girls and Head of Netball from Stamford High School. It was set up to build a better bond with Stamford and also to allow our girls to experience some different coaching styles and utilise their indoor facilities.

The girls started with some tag netball, moving the ball around trying to catch a runner. All sorts of suggestions and tactics were made and slowly the girls realised the relevance these points had to their game; passing ahead, moving into space etc. Next was ball skills; working on passing and receiving, how important keeping elbows in is on a chest pass, and the extra power it creates. They went on to work on footwork and keeping their body facing the ball at all times. They finished this section with a coordination game involving two balls, which the girls loved and have already recreated back at Copthill!
Then they started some work with balloons! They had to keep a balloon up in the air whilst moving back to receive a pass, and then back to their balloon. This really challenged their footwork and developed them turning their hips. Next they were keeping four balloons up in a pair working on communication and movement again.
It was a fun evening developing skills and working with new people. Thank you Stamford.
