ISA Regional Cross Country Championships 18th January 2019

A lovely cold clear Friday at Finborough School, Suffolk was the setting for the ISA Regional Cross Country Championships 2019. Copthill had brought three teams of our best runners to compete, including, for the very first time, an U9 team due to their fantastic results last term. It was a day that promised much fun, focus, energy and challenge. It delivered!

The Year 4 boys team; Henry Randall, Monty Wild, Oran Summers and Dexter Emmerson were first on the start line. They set a frantic pace across the playing fields before disappearing from view down "Devils Hill" to run a lap of the golf course. An anxious wait before the first boys emerged back on the playing fields. True to form Dexter lead the Copthill team in, recording a magnificant 3rd place, and followed closely by Henry, Monty and Oran. A great team effort by the boys!

Next up were Year 5/6 Girls. Emily Darrell, Lexie Smith, Hannah Teesdale and Annabel Hayes looked unphased by the sizeable field assembled on the start line. Cheered on by Mrs Schofield and many Copthill supporters placed around the course, the girls ran a strong race. Annabel had a great run, leading the Copthill runners until the final corner, when Emily found a last boost of energy to overtake! Lexie powered in soon after, gaining valuable experience for next year, and Hannah completed the team putting in a fantastic performance on her first cross country race!

Finally the Year 5/6 Boys; William Wood, Marcus Oliver, Monty Wood and Euan Hunter stood on the start line. They looked focused! Another stampede across the playing fields with William and Marcus leading the way. 10 minutes later they were digging in to conquer the return up Devils Hill. William had stretched away by this point and looked very strong as he raced in to finish with a wonderful 5th place. Marcus, not far behind was putting everything he had into those last few hundred yards, overtaking a number of runners to finish an excellent 11th. Monty powered in next and looks a definite prospect for a big result next year. Euan finished close behind, smile on his face, I'm sure he will be back for more next year as well!

Congratulations to all our runners, Mrs Schofield and I are very proud of you all, but special mention to Dexter and William who qualified for the ISA National Finals, and to Marcus who will be first reserve for the Nationals.  Many thanks, as always, to our amazing travelling support, we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did.
