U11B Boys Hockey v Stamford Junior School

Copthill U11 B team had their first hockey fixture of the season against Stamford Junior School on Wednesday 21st January.  The match was a very closely fought affair, played in bitterly cold conditions.  The first half saw Stamford dominate most of the attacking play, but Copthill were resilient in their defence with outstanding performances coming from goalkeeper Oliver Dowell and defenders Gabriel Rudman and Toby Dalrymple!  The first half ended goalless and with only 10 minutes remaining it looked as if we were going to have a stalemate.  However, Max Kettlewell was moved from midfield to striker which proved the telling point of the game as he opened the scoring with virtually his first touch having moved positions.  Stamford rallied hard to try and find an equaliser but Copthill held firm and were rewarded for their efforts as Kettlewell struck again with a well taken reversed stick strike.  The final score was 2-0 to Copthill.  All the boys played incredibly well and should be extremely proud of their efforts.  Gabriel Rudman and Oliver Dowell were named players of the match, however all boys should take great credit for a super team performance who were captained very well by the consistent Toby Dalrymple.  Very well done to all the boys who took part!
