U11 Football v Grantham Prep

Copthill U11 Football team played their first match of the term on Wednesday 14th January at Grabtham Prep School.  The match was played in bitterly cold conditions and the pitch covered with snow, which made passing and running with the ball tricky!

However the first half ended in a stalemate which was a fair result on the reflection of play.  The boys were now getting very cold as the second half started, the sun set and the temperature plummeted!

Grantham came out stronger taking the lead within 5 minutes of the restart, the goal coming from a corner and Copthill unable to head the ball away.  They then went 2-0 up after Will Kong failed to gather the ball cleanly, resulting in an own goal!  Tom Chesworth then had two one on ones, which unfortunately he couldn't put away, then Max O'Flaherty missed a good chance at the far post after good work from Tom Chesworth.  If one or two of these chances had gone in then I believe the scoreline would of been different.  However it wasn't to be and Grantham added 2 more goals against a despondent Copthill side to make the final score 4-0 to Grantham Prep School.

Man of the Match goes to goalkeeper Will Kong who made some outstanding saves throughout the game.

We now have a week off matches for football with lots to work on as they prepare for their next fixture in 2 weeks time versus Castor.
