The Copthill Gymnastics Squad

The Copthill Gymnastics Squad had their first competition on Saturday at Stamford Junior School. We entered an Under 7 Novice team, an Under 9 Novice team and an Under 9 Advanced team.
The girls have worked so hard preparing for their first competition and were very excited.  With a few beginner nerves the girls warmed up looking absolutely wonderful in their new Copthill leotards.
The Under 7's were the first to compete on floor and proved themselves to be focused, stretched and elegant.  They also remembered all of their set floor and tried not to go too fast!
We then saw the Under 9 Novice girls compete their set floor.  With a few nervous beginnings the girls tried really hard and finished with a smile.  Well done girls!
The Under 9 Advanced girls competed some fantastic squat through vaults and we also saw Annabel Hayes and Ivy Kettlewell compete two great Handspring vaults each.  The Novice girls worked hard to squat on to the vault with a straight jump off.  Emily Darrell and Hannah Teesdale showed great promise and bravery competing straddle through vaults.
The Under 9 Advanced girls then performed their floor routines to music to the judge.  They did extremely well and received a huge round of applause from the audience.
Individually Olivia Teesdale and Florence Cavacuiti placed 3rd and Lucy Richardson placed 2nd in the U7 Novice category.  We also saw Ivy Kettlewell crowned Under 9 Advanced Champion.  Fantastic results girls!
In the team results the U9 Novice were placed 2nd, the U9 Advanced were placed 2nd, and the U7 Novice were placed 1st.
All of the girl received a medal and should be very proud of their achievements.
Now to prepare for the Midlands Independent Schools Gymnastics Association (MISGA) competition on the 23rd of April. This will be our first major regional competition so lots to work hard for!
