The U11a netball team partook in their last netball match of the season and at the Laxton inter-school tournament on Wednesday 16 March 2016. Nine schools in total competed, with Laxton entering an A and a B team due to a last minute cancellation from Witham Hall, hence there were five teams in pool A and five teams in pool B.

The competition in Pool A: Laxton A, King’s Ely, The Grove, Stamford, Wellingborough
The competition in Pool B: Peterborough High, Kimbolton, Copthill, Grantham, Laxton B

Our scores were as follows:

Copthill v P’boro: draw: 3-3
Copthill v Kimbolton: loss 9-0
Copthill v Grantham: loss 5-0
Copthill v Laxton B: win 3-2

Points were awarded in the following way: 5 points for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for scoring half or more of the opponents score.  Copthill’s total score meant that they finished fourth in their pool, so they played Wellingborough from pool A who also finished fourth in their pool. This was an evenly matched game, however the opposition managed to outscore us 3-1 goals. This brought the girls to finishing 8th in the tournament over all.

In the finals, Laxton A played Kimbolton for the first and second place and Stamford played Grantham for third and fourth places in the tournament. Unfortunately due to timings we had to leave before these matches had been played, although I am sure that they would have been very exciting and useful matches to have watched.

The girls entered into the matches with hundred percent effort, however they were clearly up against some not only much taller but stronger opposition. I was proud of their determination and spirit. It was a cold day and quite intense in terms of no half times and back to back matches. The girls also had to be dynamic and be prepared to change positions and courts rapidly.

Well done to everyone who competed!
