U11 A Netball v St Hugh's

The U11 A's played St Hugh's on Wednesday 20th January. The girls had been working hard in lessons and were keen to play in a match. Despite being a little chilly, the sun stayed out and captain Ags Pennell made a sensible decision to start by shooting into the non sunny end of the court.

The match got under way at a rapid pace and the Copthill girls were quick to get into their stride. Some lovely fast and accurate passing saw the ball stay mainly in our half of the court during the first quarter. To Mrs Lamb's delight (as quick passing had been one focus of Monday's lesson), this continued throughout the match and was, in fact, commented on by the opposition spectators. The girls worked extremely hard to maintain this momentum throughout all four quarters of the game, giving Ana Isaac, Daisy Selkirk, Elizabeth Hall and Rosie Sly some excellent opportunities to shoot at goal. At the other end of the court, Jemima Hitcham demonstrated some high quality intercepting and Elizabeth Hall consistently denied her opponent the chance to receive the ball.  The high intensity mid court work rate of Ags Pennell , Daisy Selkirk and Alice Brownlow, meant that when possession was briefly lost, it was not for long as the ball was quickly returned back up the court to the shooters. The final result was a very well deserved 10 - 0 to Copthill!

As ever, there are one or two things to be working on (footwork and defending tightly!) but what an excellent start to the season. Such an inspiring performance from the girls and done in such a positive, sporting manner. With such brilliant performances from all the girls it was incredibly difficult to name a Player of the Match, however on this occasion it went to Ags Pennell.

Well done girls - you should be so very proud of yourselves - you were amazing!

(A still smiling about it the next day) Mrs Lamb :)
