U11A Rounders vs Stamford Junior School

The chilliest day of the week saw the U11 girls have their second rounders match. We have worked a lot on our fielding since our narrow defeat to Brooke Priory and we were ready to hit the ground running.
The staff decided to play the "30 good balls" format and Stamford won the toss and chose to field first. We had a strong first batting innings with Emily Anderson scoring two full rounders and two halves with Felicity picking up two full rounders also. The girls ended the innings with a strong score of 7 against some very strong Stamford fielding.
We then went into field and Emily Darrell was very solid in bowling and a wonderful trio of Emily Anderson at Backstop, Ivy Kettlewell on 2nd and Eliana Russo at backup worked really well and held Stamford off picking up many half rounders. The girls managed to get their first three choice batters out and they finished on 6 Rounders. All to play for!
As we went into bat for the second innings we didn't have quite the same strike rate. 3 girls picked up one full rounder; Emily Anderson, Felicitiy Branton and Isobel Brown. Stamford fielded very well and kept our score down to 5. Meaning Stamford needed 6 and a half to win.
Again our fielding was solid and we got four of their batters out. Felicity Branton threw a wonderful ball from well behind first directly to fourth which was wonderful to watch. Eliana Russon made a few diving stops to prevent the ball going past and both Halle Stone and Gemma O'Flaherty worked hard at cut off, and paired well with Libby Bird on fourth. The girls managed to hold Stamford off the win and finish with a 12-12 draw.
I really feel that score reflected the game; a tight well fought contest between two very similar teams.
