U11B Rounders v Stamford Junior School

On a gloriously sunny Wednesday 4th May, the U11 B girls took on SJS. Captain Poppy Newman won the toss and elected to field first. Stamford started well, but some tight defending again from Isabelle Branton, Poppy and Samantha Hughes ensured that they were kept to an innings score of 7. The girls went into bat feeling confident, but despite some lovely hitting from Georgie Sakkalli and Lily Newman, Stamford's tight fielding and our own enforced errors meant that we were held to only 5 rounders.

The girls showed true determination with their second innings of fielding, talking well to each other and being decisive when returning the ball. Some lovely deep fielding from Izzy York-Forward meant that Rosie Thorpe on 4th post was able to hold off Stamford to only 2 full rounders. Our other deep fielders of Jemima Hitcham and Brooke Fleming covered the rest of the pitch well despite some big hitting from SJS and held them to only 5 rounders.

Our second innings of batting started with the girls knowing exactly what they needed to do to earn a win. They demonstrated some lovely batting skills but again some great fielding from SJS meant we got off to a slow start. The girls, however, didn't give up and this enabled them to gain a well earned victory, with a final score of 16-12.

The girls played with determination and displayed fantastic concentration and behaviour throughout the match. Well done girls - it was a pleasure to be umpiring.

Player of the Match was Poppy Newman for her fantastic all around skills on the field. She bowled brilliantly despite only having had a few minutes practice, scored three of our rounders and along with Rosie and Samantha managed a fantastic catch.
