U11 GIRLS HOCKEY COACHING AFTERNOON WITH GB HOCKEY PLAYERS

A GREAT AFTERNOON OF HOCKEY

Last Friday Copthill were delighted to be welcomed to Oakham School for what has now become an annual U11 Girls Hockey Coaching afternoon.  Copthill were joined by Highfields School and Stoneygate.

Copthill girls enjoyed an afternoon of training, expertly led by GB and England defender Ollie Willars and Scotland goalkeeper James Cachia.  Oakham School's hockey coaches also led groups and helped to refine and develop the girls' hockey skills.

Expert advice from James was given to aspiring goalkeepers, coaching them first on defensive positions and then sending them out to play in matches, putting what they had learnt into the games.  The rest of the girls were divided into groups and rotated around various different coaching exercises.

Six awards were presented to outstanding players and Copthill were delighted to receive two of these.  Jemima Hitcham was awarded 'Special Player' for her application, commitment and effort to goalkeeping.  Jemima received a new Osaka hockey stick for her hard work.  Gemma O'Flaherty caught the eye of the coaches and was identified as a 'Star Player', receiving a glass trophy for her contribution to the afternoon.  Very well done to all the girls and to Jemima and Gemma for their excellent achievements.

This really was a fantastic afternoon for the girls to get them started for the hockey season.
