U9 Girls Hockey Festival - Thurs 29th Sep 2016

On Thursday 29th September the U9 girls travelled to Stamford Junior School to take part in a hockey festival.  The girls were split into two mixed teams, meaning that every girl in Year 4 was able to take part.  The purpose of the "Festival" was to get the children playing and provide the opportunity for as many children from as many schools as possible to take part in competitive sport.

The Zebras (captained by Libby Bird), started nervously against SJS 2, but it wasn't long before they managed to score.  The team seemed to suddenly step up a gear and finished with a convincing 2-0 victory.  The girls worked incredibly hard as a team, with Libby Bird and Annabel Hayes covering a fair few miles in midfield.  They went on to draw 0-0 with SJS 1 and then beat Laxton 2-0 and Wellingborough 1-0 with some inspirational shooting from Holly Potts and some lovely dribbling skills from Ellie Raymond.  Some fantastic defending from Lulu Berry and Lottie Parker and some lovely spatial awareness from Hannah Teesdale in midfield saw the girls keep a clean sheet which was incredibly impressive.

It was lovely to see the girls' confidence grow as the festival progressed and they should be incredibly proud of their team work and encouragement of each other.  I am incredibly grateful to SJS for hosting such an inclusive event.

Well done girls, you were brilliant!

Mrs Lamb
