U11 ‘A’ Rugby Home Against Maidwell – Wednesday 18th November 2015
This was a
very close match with both sides quite evenly matched. Copthill improved their tackling and showed
spells of excellent handling, continually spinning the ball wide and making
several telling breaks. Gabe Rudman and
Felix Clayton scored two well deserved tries after several passes gave them
space to get to cross the line.
Maidwell
were quite a big side and when they secured possession they had three very
quick players who were able to outpace our defence. A final score of 2-4 was not a true
reflection of the game, and though we maybe didn’t deserve to win, a 2-2 draw
would have been a truer reflection of the game.
Freddie Gwinnett captained the side effectively and the fact that the
whole team had improved the key areas we have been focusing on, namely;
tackling, looking where we are passing and moving the ball away from the
breakdown area meant no player of the match, just a big pat on the back for a
much improved team effort. Every player
was positive after the final whistle, knowing they had tried their best and
improved in key areas.
Next week we
face SJS and need to continue with the improved tackling and passing as well as
thinking of presenting the ball or taking it to ground in contact so that we
keep possession and achieve quick ball to stretch the opponents defence.
