U11B v Maidwell and U11D v Maidwell (H)

U11 B

The U11 B's match against Maidwell was a fiercely competitive match that ended 1-1. The first half began with both sides having early chances to score, and if it weren't for a fine save from first-half goalkeeper Freddie Gwinnett; tipping the ball over the bar from a good long-range effort, then Maidwell would have taken the lead very early on. However, not long later Maidwell's pressure paid off and they scored the first goal of the game through a wonderful finish in the top-corner that the Copthill boys could simply do nothing to stop. Copthill then began to pile the pressure onto their opposition, but were unable to get the equaliser before half-time.

The second half began and straight away it was noticeable how the Copthill side were using the width of the pitch much better. Eventually this paid off after excellent work from midfielders O'Flaherty and Crewe, who worked tirelessly all game. First-half goalkeeper (second-half striker!) Gwinnett finished the move off with a strike into the bottom corner. Many more chances were created before the end of the game, with Copthill hitting the woodwork three times! Yet neither side could find a winner.

I would like to say very well played to the boys who put in 110% effort and were desperately unfortunate not to have won the game.

U 11 D

It was an end to end match for the U11 D's vs Maidwell. Lots of skill and effort were on show from both sides. Maidwell pushed ahead in the first half with two well-taken goals, the first against the run of play - Copthill applying all the early pressure.

Again in the second half Copthill came forward only to be caught out by a quick counter attack. This put new energy into the team, pushing forward yet again Callum Marshall tucked a magnificent shot into the top corner, followed moments later by William Grooby finishing a well-worked move. The comeback was on! A brilliant save from Michael Mandy kept Copthill believing, but late on Maidwell made it 4-2 and the final whistle went. A great game. Very well played by both teams and well captained by Arlo North. Men of the match goes to the two goalscorers Callum and William.
