U11 Cricket v Bedford Modern School - Wednesday 20th April 2016

The U11s played their first hardball match of the term on Wednesday 20th April at home to Bedford Modern School.

It was a glorious day of pure sunshine as Copthill took to the field to face a competitive Bedford Modern side. The toss was won by Copthill and Toby Dalrymple, who was selected captain for the match elected to field first. Bedford set a sound 102 runs from 20 overs, for Copthill to beat.

After the innings we new that this score was achievable, although tricky to reach. Copthill started really strongly with the first pair scoring 21 runs and the second pair 29, so we were already halfway to the target after just 2 pairs batting and still 3 remaining. However we made hard work of eventually reaching the required runs to win the match as the 3rd pair only scored 17 runs but the 4th pair made up for this by scoring a fantastic 31 runs!

The final pair needed 5 runs to win from 4 overs but when the first ball was bowled it took the bails off, which meant Copthill lost 5 runs, now needing 10 to win! It was a nervous ending but Copthill managed to win by 7 runs with the eventual score being 102 to Bedford Modern and 109 to Copthill.

Well done to all the boys who took part in the match and they should all be proud of their achievements! They know that we still need plenty of practice bowling. Man of the match for this game was Will Le Voi and Connor Finlan.
