ISA Indoor Ski Championships

On Monday 25th April Copthill's first ski team attended the ISA Schools Ski Championships at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead. Representing the school were Lukey Harriss and Callum Marshall Year 6, Libby Bird Year 3 and Henry Randall Year 1.

It was an early start and by 8:30am the team were kitted up and out on the slope. After an hours warm up and course inspection the races started at 10am.

Each person had two runs through the slalom course with their best time counting.  Everyone put down a clear first run and had a good time recorded on the board. This meant a few risks could be taken for the second run.  Amazingly all four team members improved in the second run and moved up the leader board.

Nearly two hundred children competed in the junior event, many who have regular ski lessons with their schools at the Snow Centre.

I am very proud to say Libby and Henry secured individual bronze medals in their age groups. The U12 boys category was the largest with 49 competitors, Callum finished 8th and Lukey 30th. It was Lukey and Henry's first competitive race event so an amazing performance.

The individual results that Libby and Henry achieved were very impressive and they were awarded with their medals.

In addition to this Copthill skiers achieved 1st place in the mixed team event out of 24 teams.  This is an incredible achievement.  Well done to Callum, Lukey, Henry and Libby on some very impressive skiing.
