U10 Girls Hockey Tournament @ LGJS

The weather was more than a little windy as the Copthill girls battled against the elements at the LGJS U10 Girls Hockey Tournament on Wednesday.  With the knowledge of a challenging pool and some tough opposition, the girls rose to the challenge and gave their all.

A difficult first match against Stoneygate with any attacking opportunities quickly blocked by a solid Stoneygate defence resulted in an unfortunate loss.  With their heads held high that they had given everything in the previous match, they went on to beat a well disciplined Fairfield in their second match of the tournament.  An excellent goal lifted high into the top left corner took Fairfield by surprise and gave Copthill the confidence to dominate and put the pressure on to ensure a well deserved win.  The third match in their pool was against Witham Hall.  The team were in good spirits despite not securing a lead.

Finishing third out of the four teams in the initial pool resulted in Copthill playing LGJS in their final match of the afternoon.  Copthill meant business from the moment the first whistle was blown.  They advanced the ball confidently towards their attacking goal and were successful in maintaining a far greater possession of the ball.

Well done to all the U10 Hockey team for an excellent display of hockey.  Player of the tournament goes to Libby Bird.

Well done to all.

Mrs Harriss
