U11A&B Hockey vs Oakham

We took two U11/10 Teams across to Oakham to play in some very competitive matches. The A team took a strong win with a 3-1 victory, and the B team only had a narrow loss in the last stages losing 3-2.

The A team has been focusing on their shape and structure and it was lovely to see the ball being fed wide and using the wings to move the ball down the pitch.

The B team worked on their set piece, with a main focus on 'hit outs'. We have been trying to encourage the girls to run and get the ball to then be ready to take the hit out before the opposition are set, is a really positive thing.

Both teams played some lovely hockey, and the marathon walk to teas gave the girls and the many supporting parents time to talk over the game. We awarded to players of the match this week due to the hard work of so many. For the A team we chose Gemma O'Flaherty for being such a strong force to be reckoned with in defence, and secondly Ivy Kettlewell. She is a solid performer who distributed the ball well and opened up space in attack. For the B team we chose Isobel Youll, for her determination regardless of the position she was playing. She is confident in midfield but when moved into defence to strengthen the team she work extremely hard and cleared some wonderful balls. Secondly was Emily Darrell, her stick work was lovely and she grew in confidence running with the ball.

Well done to all the girls involved.
