U11A Hardball v Ratcliffe - Wednesday 13th June 2018

Copthill travelled to Ratcliffe College on Wednesday in what was their final match of the season.

The format of the afternoon was traditional 11 a-side when you’re out you’re out.

We didn’t start well losing the opener to a golden duck and the next to a duck!! However William Baker, Henry S-P and Ruben Baker steadied the ship with William scoring 18 and Ruben 37, with Henry S-P supporting each player well in between.

Copthill ended with a respectable total of 103.

It was however the bowling and fielding concentration that really did let the boys down!! Not remembering the basic long barrier to stop the ball going for a 4 and bowling so many loose balls.

Ratcliffe needed 3 to win in the final over and from the 1st ball they scored 1, or we thought they did...... then commenced some calamity fielding with them running another and then the ball being thrown for 4 over throws - game over!!

It was a shame how the game was lost in what was a great match. However, the lessons learnt here are do not be complacent and concentrate until the very end!!

Well done to all the boys who took part and player of the match is awarded to Raj Sisodia for accurate straight bowling and stopping numerous balls from going for 4 runs.

Mr Smith
