U11A Rounders vs Witham

We knew from the outset this was going to be a tough match, we had heard the Witham team were very strong and they really did deliver an impressive performance.

They won the toss and chose to field first, so in stepped Emily Anderson a superb hitter! As she hit in into the sky it was caught by a fielder and Emily's batting innings was over which was a real upset for the girls.

Our first batting innings was kept to a very low score of 1 rounder, with some excellent solid fielding to shut off second base and a few timid runs from our girls it was tough to pick up any halves.

When Witham came into bat they were very strong across the board. They scored 15 and 1/2 rounders and set the bar very high for our second innings. Felicity Branton put in some wonderful throws with a rather large amount being struck towards her behind first base.

It was time to refocus and set an attainable target for us. We wanted to beat our previous batting innings and keep them to a lower score when they returned to bat. We finished our second innings on 6 rounders, with full rounders coming from our two Yr5 girls; Emily Darrell and Libby Bird.

Now it was to have a stronger fielding innings and the girls really stepped it up, we got 6 Witham girls out, many from the strong link between Emily Anderson at backstop, and Ivy Kettlewell at second base. Emily Darrell's bowling was strong throughout and Witham awarded her joint player of the match with Halle Stone and Bea Selkirk. Bea had a storming second fielding innings, putting her body in front of many strong hits out at deep fielder and was able to accurately get the ball on it's way to fourth. We held them to 12 in their second innings so we achieved both of our targets set at half time.
Although it was a big loss, the girls learnt a lot and it was a positive experience to watch such a well drilled team play a very strong match. I was so proud of the girls and how they never let their heads drop, they stayed focused and on task throughout. Well done.
