EMPHATIC WIN FOR COPTHILL V WITHAM!!

Copthill Under 11A hardball team produced an outstanding performance against Witham Hall on Wednesday 6th June.

Witham won the toss and elected to field first, therefore Copthill having to set a good run rate. The boys started brightly enough but collapsed a little in the middle order scoring 237 with one pair to come in to bat. The final pair produced a fine display and nearly doubled the score with Copthill finishing on 264 for 8 wickets. Sam Chesworth putting in an excellent display.

Knowing that Witham didn't need to do much to reach the total and win the match, Copthill had to bowl well and keep the fielding tight. The first pair scored a total of 224 which put them well on the way to reaching the required total. However, Copthill bowled better in the middle order and there were some fine displays from Elliott Britton, Gilbert Genever-Jones and William Baker.

As the game approached the final 2 overs Witham took the lead by 1 run! Leaving Copthill needing wickets to win the game. Edmund Kavati bowled the penultimate over having bowled a very inconsistent one for his first and managed to take 2 wickets which put Copthill back in the driving seat! With William Baker bowling the last over and Witham needing 15 to win all he needed to do was bowl sensibly - he bowled a no-ball on his first delivery! He didn't want to do things the easy way! He then delivered 5 excellent bowls, therefore, Copthill winning the match by 10 runs!

A brilliant display from all the boys and all are awarded player of the match!

Mr Smith
