U11C Cricket v SJS - Wednesday 20th June 2018

Will Cole scored 31 runs, took 3 wickets and a catch off his own bowling to help guide Copthill ’s U11C team to a 23 run victory.

Copthill batted first, and were immediately faced with some strong SJS bowling. Opening pair Elliott Noble and Alec Telford, however, were not fazed by the opposition and scored a partnership of 22. Alec scored a calm 7 runs off the bat, including a four through the leg side. The next two batsmen were Will Cole and Callum Riddle. The pairing turned out to be a very expensive few overs for SJS, as Cole scored a lightning 31 runs off the bat, including 3 sixes and 3 fours. Callum Riddle supported the partnership with some good running between the wickets, scoring 3 runs off the bat. In third were Raife Brownlow and Y5 representative Aran Chauhan. Both boys made a brilliant account of themselves, Chauhan and Brownlow scoring 10 and 12 respectively and not losing a wicket. The final pairing comprised of a second innings for Brownlow and Noble. They finished with a partnership of 30, Noble bringing his total to 13 and Brownlow scoring 3 fours and a 6 to finish on 22 off the bat. Copthill finished on 236, having started on 100.

Copthill were just as successful with the ball in SJS’ innings. Stamford had a huge run chase on their hands, and tight, destructive bowling from Will Cole (3-0-3-20), Elliott Noble (3-0-2-21) and Raife Brownlow (2-0-1-22) ensured that the visitors remained on the back foot. An extremely strong third pairing put Stamford back in contention, but catches from Cole and Alec Telford, as well as a brilliant tactical team decision to let the batsmen take ones and stop the boundaries pinned the opposition back even further. They finished on 214, meaning that the mighty U11Cs finished victorious!

Every single member of the side represented Copthill brilliantly in what was a well-fought match. Player of the Match is awarded to Will Cole for his professional approach towards the game and a demonstration of immense skill in all areas of the the game. In future, the boys must work on quick runs between the stumps to maximise their score, as well as backing up throws in the field.
