U11 Football v Grantham Prep & Ayscoughfee (a) 24/02/2016
The U11 Football team travelled away to Grantham Prep on Wednesday 24th February to take part in a triangular event along with Ayscoughfee.
It was a fantastic afternoon and the weather was very kind to us. Copthill and Grantham contested the first match of the triangular event which was extremely close. Both sides defending resolutely with hardly any mistakes being made. The midfield for Copthill worked tirelessly getting up and down the pitch. Felix Clayton & Freddie Finlan worked well up front and both had great opportunities to open the scoring in the first half. However the half ended 0-0, which was a true reflection on the game thus far.
The second half began brightly, however Grantham were gaining a grip hold of the match in terms of possession and looked the more likely team to score. They were playing some good football as a team and had numerous chances to score. However, choosing route one, Freddie Gwinnett produced an excellent kick from goal over the top of the defence for Felix Clayton to pounce for a breakaway goal! This was enough to win the match 1-0. Grantham would have been disappointed as they could not convert any of their chances. A fantastic team performance and man of the match went to Felix Clayton & Will Le Voi.
We then played Ayscoughfee straight away without much of a break. We had previously played Ayscoughfee before half term losing 1-0 away. Copthill were determined that this match was going to be a different scoreline. They started the match very well and had much the better of the first half going in at half time 1-0 up courtesy of a Charlie Plant & Felix Clayton double header with a super assist from Connor Finlan's corner. However Ayscoughfee played some excellent football in the second half and managed to score a great equaliser to make the score 1-1. This was how the match finished and man of the match went to Connor Finlan and Charlie Plant.
The final match between Ayscoughfee and Grantham ended 1-1 which meant that Copthill were the overall winners for the triangular event.
Well done to all the boys who took part for there efforts and endeavour. Our next match is next Wednesday away at Brooke Priory.
