U11 ISA Hockey

Thursday 22nd Nov saw a very early start for the team and coaches, leaving school at 7am! The U11 girls headed down to London to compete in the ISA Nationals held at Lee Valley Hockey Centre on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The venue in itself rightly caused a lot of excitement and so it should. What a special moment to run out on the same pitch as the one 2012 Hockey was played on!

It was, as it always is, a cold chilly day but we were lucky with little wind it was very manageable. There were 32 teams attending the event split into 4 pools. Our first game was against Rosemead and the girls took an early hold of the game with some wonderful distribution and ball carrying, ending in a well deserved 3-0 win. We then played Lingfield College Prep, we dominated the possession and created a number of chances, just unfortunately unable to convert them. Lingfield made a break and took the score to 1-0. Our third and final pool game was against Ashton House, the girls came out strong and some wonderful distribution from Isobel Youll saw Emily Darrell driving down the right wing and feeding some lovely balls into the D. Libby Bird did some lovely carries and with her head up laid the ball off well to Holly Potts. The girls came away with another 3-0 win, which saw them finish second in their group and qualify for the Cup Stages of the competition.

Our first game drew us against St Margaret's School Halstead, and the game was extremely tight with both teams fighting for possession. The 7 minute game finished 0-0 and the girls only had a short turn around until their second game against Cundall Manor School. It was such a tight game, and we controlled the possession well, some great saves from Violet Griffiths-Barrasso kept them out, but a great strike from their centre mid saw the ball lifted at shoulder height into the goal to finish the game 1-0. We would later see this team go the whole way to the final and end up ISA National Champions so holding them to a lucky 0-1 loss showed just how well the girls were playing. Our final game was against Holme Grange and again, without repeating myself the match was extremely equal and even leaning in our favour at times. Georgia Plant had a wonderful break and Lulu Berry and Lottie Parker defended their hearts out. Annabel Hayes' work rate was superb as she worked hard to get back in defence. The game ended 0-1 to Holme Grange and meant the girls didn't progress into the top four to play for a place.

I could not have been more proud of the Hockey the girls played in each and every match. They have come so far from the start of the season and displayed all the skills and structure we have been working so hard on. It was a real team effort from 1-9. Well done girls!! Mrs Alcoran, Mr Howitt and Mr Teesdale.
